Robert (Bobby) Linton Helmick

Robert (Bobby) Linton Helmick, of Damascus, Md. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Bobby was born August 22, 1941 in Thomas, WV. The son of the late Walter S. and Sharlene M. Carr Helmick.


He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol Cummings Helmick and two daughters, Tammy Kaye Helmick and LaTrisha Denise Allen, one granddaughter Stephanie Johnson of Clarksburg, MD; and one grandson, Matthew Smiley of Frederick, MD. Two brothers, Walter S. Helmick, Jr. of Davis, WV and Michael R. (Carol) Helmick of Thomas. 6 sisters Joyce Wilson of Thomas, Patty Stukey of Thomas, Sandra Mason of Hambleton, WV, Brenda Lipscomb of Thomas, WV, Janice Richards of Berryville, VA, and Janet Goldman of Endicott, NY.

Bobby was a graduate of Mountaineer High School in Thomas, WV. He served in the US Coast Guard for 4 years; he was a police officer in Norfolk, VA for 4 years; he was tugboat captain of the Sea Level out of Norfolk, VA; he worked part time for 11 years as a security guard captain at the HEW building in Rockville, MD; and worked at Montgomery College for 32 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and all-around outdoorsman.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 18, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held, 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Callaway officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.hinklefuneralhome.com
