Wanda “Jean” Helmick Knotts, 92, a resident of the Horseshoe Run Community, and more recently of Lake Wylie, SC passed from this life Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the home of her daughter, Donna Miller and under the care of Hospice and Community Care. She had been in declining health.
Jean was born Monday, February 26, 1934, in Thomas, a daughter of the late Dave Helmick and Lilly Blanche Lewis Helmick. She was a 1951 graduate of Thomas High School. She had worked as a catering waitress with Marriott.
On October 20, 2019, Jean’s husband of sixty-six years, Delton Carl “Bud” Knotts, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Carl Knotts, three brothers, Ronald Helmick, Donald Wayne “Donnie” Helmick and Glenn “Red” Helmick, and a sister, Catherine “Bet” Lipscomb.
Left to cherish Jean’s memory are three daughters, Donna Jean Miller of South Carolina, Susan Diane Horton and husband, Mark, of Maryland, Cathy Jo Knotts and husband, Mitchell Pinnix, of South Carolina; two sisters, Maxine “Connie” Eye, and Madeline “Carroll” Precht, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Ryan Warrenfeltz, and wife, Sally, with their children, Ryan Jr., Megan, Jack; Holly Armstrong and husband, Kevin, with their children, Eliana, Benjamin, Samuel; and Andrew Horton; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jean and Bud had been long time members of the Leadmine Church.
Visitation will be held at Hostetler Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11am until 1pm, the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
