Our Congressman from the first district sends out a weekly newsletter reporting on issues that particularly pertain to his constituents.
The May 6 edition celebrates the congressional passing of a bill and does not report on how he cast his vote. It was in fact difficult to find out how he voted yet he celebrated the passage of the house legislation and seems proud to pass off responsibility for perfecting this bill to the senate. The congressional representative from the 1st district recently voted yes to the proposed revision to the Affordable Care Act.
He endorsed tax cuts for those making $200,000 or more while cutting benefits to women and children and Medicaid beneficiaries. And with their pre-existing condition plan most state residents will either be in a situation with unaffordable premiums since the population is aging and everyone has some kind of pre-existing condition in the eyes of the insurance companies. This bill would make the state of West Virginia financially responsible and at last look our state is struggling financially. The current ACA does need to be reexamined to make it better and provide affordable equal access to quality health care. Congressman McKinley was there for the photo op yet (in my opinion) did not do his due diligence that his constituents deserve by resisting celebration and working on research for realistic solutions.
Let it be noted that Congressman Evan Jenkins and Alex Mooney voted in favor of the repeal as well.
As a member of the Tucker County Planning Commission I feel obligated to research and explore the possible impact of decisions and recommendations that affect our community prior to voting on an issue.
Why is it acceptable for an employee, which is what our congressman is, to not due their job, while spending taxpayers money and not work to solve our healthcare policy creating affordable and accessible, quality healthcare for his constituents? Why do the representatives of West Virginia constantly vote against the interests of their constituents?
