TVEMS Field Day

Peggy MacKenzie by Peggy MacKenzie

Dear Community Organization,

Hello, my name is Vickie Smith and I am a health and physical education teacher at TVEMS. Last year, many of you donated to our very successful Field Day. Our local paper, The Parsons Advocate, as well as The InnerMountain, were instrumental in communicating with the public about our event, along with providing some amazing pictures afterwards.

The TVEMS administration approached me to organize an event for 2018 and I have graciously accepted. Our theme this year will be “Kindness”. April Miller from the FRN will do a “Kindness” presentation assembly at TVEMS and hopefully, the other schools in Tucker County. Abby Gherman, Soria Pennington, and Willow White, the 8th grade student co-chairs, will design and implement school wide “Kindness” activities each week until May 24 or 25, when the TVEMS Kindness Field Day 2018 will be held.

This year’s event will provide students with opportunities to be active, feature better nutritional choices, and host contests in the areas of art, music, and writing. Additiona lly, we will incorporate events that focus on reinforcing math skills. The co-chairs and I feel empowering and showcasing all students K-8 in various contests, enhances the success of our event, while demonstrating the importance of kindness in their daily lives.

Each of the following contests will be offered. To provide incentives for participation, we will offer monetary prizes for 1st_2nd and 3rd in each area. The l’t place winners for the button and tee shirt contests will have their logo imprinted on buttons and tees, which hopefully will be given to all students and staff from the monies donated.

Design a Button Logo- Art Contest Grades K-2
Design a Tee Shirt Logo – Art Contest Grades 3-5 and 6-8
Design a Poster Contest- Art Contest Grades 3-5 and 6-8
Music Contest Grades 3-5 and 6-8
Writing Sentences/Essay Contest Grades K-2 Grades 3-5 and 6-8
Design a Flyer Contest Computer Classes Grade 8

Last year’s “Color Run” was a huge success, we will be including this event for 2018. Should you like to make a monetary donation towards this year’s event, please make checks payable to:

Sincerely,
Vickie J. Smith
