Mom’s School Picnic Fruit Salad

I thought I had seen it all but this weekend The Sister called to ask if I had placed flowers on mom’s grave. Of course I had done that just last week. We thought maybe they had blown off, so the next day I went to the cemetery to look for them. No luck and I really hate to think that someone took them. But when they are not in the trash bin or laying somewhere in the grass, that is the only conclusion I can come to. Momma Said, “You can’t get much lower than stealing from the dead.”

I always make the arrangements for mom and gran’s grave. I put a lot of work into them because, they both worked with flowers so we don’t want anything flimsy or not nice and full. So it was a trip to the store for more supplies. More flowers, a new wreath and of course, I would be out of glue for the glue gun. I think she would be pleased with my efforts. Now I just need to find another easel to hang it on, another trip to the cemetery and hopefully this one will stay put.

I sincerely hope that this does not happen to anyone else. I hope your Memorial Day is uneventful and safe as you spend time with your friends and family. Momma Said, “Remember your loved ones that are no longer with you.” I don’t need a holiday to remember mom, she is in my thoughts every day.

I remember this time of year with fondness because when we were small and still in grade school, this was the time of year that we had our school picnic. Mom would always make a huge bowl of fruit salad. It was the best ever and we did not get to have it often. I can’t eat fruit salad at any time of year that I don’t think of those picnics. She would always spend more money than we could spare, but everyone looked forward to mom’s salad. Here is the recipe and of course you can add or delete anything that does not suit your taste.
