Elkins – Davis & Elkins College has set its schedule for fall Community Education courses with the largest line-up of offerings to date. Some classes span the entire session, early September through December, while others are brief one-to-three date meetings.
Among the topics covered in the roster of 34 non-credit evening classes are arts, music, healthy lifestyles, cooking, technology, professional development, travel and culture. Special classes are also planned for youth.
Creative arts courses for adults are: Adult Piano, Appalachian Dance for Adults, Couple Dancing for Weddings, Formals and Balls, Creative Writing, Flower Arranging, Guitar for Adults, Jewelry Making, Passion for Poetry, and Mozart, Opera and The Magic Flute, which includes a trip to the Pittsburgh Opera.
Courses for healthy lifestyles and sports are: Golf and Using a Simulator, Nutrition and Eating for Health, Tennis for Adults and Zumba.
Two professional development courses, Resume and Employment Letter Basics and Self-Presentation Fundamentals – Interviewing for Success, will be offered free of charge. Both courses meet for one session only.
Those interested in learning more about cooking may choose from Appetizers and Hors d’oeuvres for the Holidays, Art of Beer Making, Baking for the Holidays, Cake Decorating for Adults and Chocolate Making.
Technology-related courses are Computer Skills and Social Networking for the Older Adult, and Website Design.
Two cultural exploration courses, Eastern Religion and Western Religion, are designed to complement one another.
Those interested in travel and history may select from West Virginia Heritage, Travelers’ Spanish and New York City Shopping, Sightseeing and Broadway Trip.
Courses especially geared for youth and young people are: Appalachian Dance, Cake Decorating, Children’s Chorus, Highland Dancing, Jewelry Making, Youth Guitar and Youth Piano.
