The Davis Thomas Bears soccer team embarked on a journey south on I-79 last week to Braxton County to bring home their first-ever win. In the fifth minute of the match, Kyree Dillard scored the first goal. In the ninth minute, the Knights committed a handling foul inside their own 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for Karac Snider, who was unable to convert.

Throughout the match, the Bears maintained possession on a damp, slightly muddy pitch. Just two minutes into the second half, Karac Snider executed a breakaway and delivered a through ball to Walker Litzau, who skillfully scored to give the Bears a commanding 2-0 lead.

Maverick Drenning showcased his agility and skill in the 49th minute, weaving through Braxton County defenders to extend the Bears’ lead to three. This was his second goal of the season.

The Knights, coached by Lindsay Harman, displayed commendable discipline throughout the match. However, they were unable to match the Bears’ comprehensive passing game.

With ten minutes remaining, Ellis Sherald was relieved as goalkeeper by Alex Kerr. In the 55th minute, Sherald was fouled in the box but narrowly missed the subsequent penalty kick.

The match concluded with a convincing victory for the Bears, who secured a 3-0 win. Sherald’s performance was commendable, as he maintained a clean sheet for three consecutive halves of play.

Davis Thomas will hit the field next on the road against Webster County on Sept. 23 and then return home to face Notre Dame on Sept. 25.
