The Davis Thomas volleyball teams had a solid showing over two games, earning victories against Tucker Valley and Union on Wednesday, Sept. 9 before traveling to face South Preston on Friday.
Davis Thomas opened the Sept. 9 action against Tucker Valley with both its junior varsity and varsity squads coming away with victories.
In the JV matchup, Davis Thomas won the first set 25-20. Audri Mullenax led the team with eight points, while Addison Fansler added five.
Davis Thomas continued its momentum in the second set, winning 25-11. Fansler led the way with an impressive 10 points as the Bears completed the JV victory.
The varsity team followed with a pair of 25-20 victories over Tucker Valley. In the opening set, Annisten Evans paced Davis Thomas with five points. The second set featured another strong team effort, with Audri Mullenax leading the Bears with five points and Harper Wilt contributing four.
Davis Thomas then faced Union JV, continuing its winning ways. The Bears took the first set decisively, 25-7. Megan Shockey led the scoring with five points, while Stella Johnson and Karman Shockey each added four.
Davis Thomas closed out the Union match with a 25-12 second-set victory. Zoe Simpson led the team with seven points, followed by Alena Barkley with six.
On Friday, Davis Thomas traveled to South Preston for an away matchup featuring both JV and varsity competition.
The JV squad faced a tough three-set battle. South Preston edged Davis Thomas 29-27 in the opening set, despite seven points from Addison Fansler and three from Bella Paugh.
Rather than letting the close loss slow them down, the Bears responded strongly in the second set, defeating South Preston 25-14. Karman Shockey led Davis Thomas with eight points, while Izzy Stemple added four.
The decisive third set was another close contest, but Davis Thomas finished on top, 25-23. Shockey contributed four points, while Megan Shockey added three as the Bears rallied to win the match.
The Davis Thomas varsity team also earned a convincing victory over South Preston, sweeping the match in two sets.
The Bears dominated the first set, 25-3, behind a tremendous performance from Avery Eichelberger, who recorded 12 points. Elizabeth DelSignore added eight points to help Davis Thomas take control early.
Davis Thomas finished the sweep with a 25-14 second-set victory. Harper Wilt led the team with seven points, while Stella Johnson contributed four.
