This week, both middle school girls’ basketball teams in Tucker County played outside opponents as well as each other.
Davis Thomas (DT) took on Bruceton Middle, where the Lady Bears took an early 17–5 lead, extending it to 27–9 by the break. DT grew their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter, leading 40–20, before finally settling the final score at 44–22. Addy Johnson led the Bears in scoring with 21 points, followed by Morgan Simmons with 13 points and Harper Wilt with 4 points.
County Tucker Valley, meanwhile, took on Pendleton County. The Lady Wildcats fell behind early, trailing 21–3 after the first quarter and 23–7 at the half. Tucker attempted to battle back in the second half but ultimately fell to Pendleton 41–16. Mia Lambert led Tucker with 6 points, Maci Owens collected 5 points, and Kosi Slaughbuagh and Ally Wright netted 2 points each.
Davis Thomas and Tucker Valley then faced each other for an inner-county showdown. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 8–4 advantage over the Bears, but DT pulled ahead 11–10 before the break. The Bears extended their lead to 6 points, making it 22–16 going into the fourth quarter. The Wildcats fought back, outscoring the Bears in the final frame, but their efforts weren’t quite enough; Davis Thomas took the first matchup of the season against Tucker Valley with a final score of 30–27.
Johnson led the Bears with 15 points, Simmons scored 9 points, and Hadley Nestor finished with 5 points. Owens led the Wildcats with 8 points, while Lambert and Slaughbuagh both netted 7 points.
Davis Thomas will host Kasson Middle on Monday the 26th, while Tucker Valley will host the Harman Panthers.
