The Tucker County Lady Mountain Lions volleyball team faced a demanding schedule this past week, competing in multiple matches and a tournament while continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
The week opened with the Tucker County varsity squad traveling to Pocahontas County for a tri-match against Pocahontas County and Webster County. The Lady Mountain Lions turned in a solid show, earning victories over both opponents.
On Tuesday, both the junior varsity and varsity teams traveled to Pendleton County. The JV squad came up short, while the varsity Lady Mountain Lions jumped out to a strong start, winning the opening two sets.
Pendleton County answered back, however, taking the next three sets to complete the comeback and hand Tucker County a hard-fought five-set loss.
The Lady Mountain Lions returned home later in the week to host Southern, where the Tucker County JV squad continued to show improvement. The young team battled throughout the match, narrowly falling 22-25 and 19-25.
The varsity contest provided plenty of excitement as Tucker County and Southern battled through five competitive sets. When the final point was played, the Lady Mountain Lions had earned the victory.
While the action on the court provided plenty of excitement, the atmosphere in the gym was just as memorable.
Tucker County fans turned out in force, packing the gym and creating an electric environment for the players. The support made the evening feel more like a basketball game, with the crowd providing energy from start to finish.
The Lady Mountain Lions expressed their appreciation to the Tucker County community for helping make the night special.
“Thank you” was the message to everyone who came out to support the team and fill the gym. The players and coaches recognized that the enthusiasm from the fans added something special to an already exciting night of volleyball.
Tucker County wrapped up the week Saturday at the Forest Festival Tournament in Elkins. The Lady Mountain Lions fell to St. Marys but bounced back to defeat Pocahontas County twice during tournament play.
Tucker County also faced Trinity, a familiar opponent from earlier in the season. The Lady Mountain Lions held the lead for much of the opening set before Trinity rallied and ultimately took the match.
It was a busy and demanding week for Tucker County volleyball, but it also provided the Lady Mountain Lions with valuable opportunities to compete against a variety of opponents, gain experience and continue improving together.
The Lady Mountain Lions will return to their home court Wednesday when they host Tygarts Valley at 6 p.m. Tucker County will then travel to Union on Thursday.
With another home match on the schedule, the Lady Mountain Lions are hoping to once again see a strong turnout from the Tucker County community.
