The Tucker County Lady Mt. Lions hit the court for their first scrimmage of the season at Frankfort, and both the JV and varsity teams brought plenty of energy.
The JV played two sets, dropping the first 20-25 and the second 12-25. Shay Wolfe and Kosi Slaubaugh led the way from the service line in the first set, each putting together six points on their serves.
The varsity played three sets, with scores of 25-27, 12-25 and 20-25. Despite the losses, the sets were exciting and gave the team a great first look at what they can do this season.
Jacey Helmick got things going in the first set with six points off her serves. Jacey, Izzy Kitzmiller, Ada Bonner, Everley Evans and Morgan Simmons all stood out at the service line.
The third set featured an especially impressive serving run from Everley, who set the pace by serving 11 points in a row, helping keep the Lady Mt. Lions battling.
Both teams may have taken the loss, but there was plenty to be excited about in this first scrimmage. The Lady Mt. Lions will get right back to work Tuesday night when they host Trinity for another scrimmage at 6 p.m.
Then it’s time for the real thing. Tucker County opens the season Thursday against Preston County, with the first game starting at 6 p.m.
