CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted top ranked Petersburg on Monday April 10th. In the contest both teams struggled to get the offense going as pitching ruled the game until Tucker County got on the scoreboard with 3 runs in the 4th inning to lead 3-0 after 4 innings. The Lady Vikings would answer back in the top of the 6th inning with 4 runs to give Petersburg the 4-3 lead after 6 innings. Petersburg then added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning to push the score to 7-3 Petersburg. The Lady Mt. Lions were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning and the Lady Vikings got the road win over Tucker County 7-3. Tucker County was led at the plate by Autumn Russell with a triple and a double on the night. Kate Simmons added a double and a single for the Lady Mt. Lions, while Rachel Felton and Paige Shaffer added 1 double each. Tucker County had 6 hits on the night while Petersburg collected 7 hits. Paige Shaffer got the start on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions. Shaffer had a no hitter into the 5th inning until Petersburg exploded for 4 hits and 4 runs in the 6th inning. Shaffer ended the game with 13 strikeouts for Tucker County in the complete game effort.
OAKLAND, MD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team traveled to Oakland, MD for a single game against the Lady Rams on Tuesday April 11th. Tucker County started the game hot as they scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 3 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 3rd inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead after 3 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions then added 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning and Southern got 1 run in the bottom of the 4th to make the score 12-1 Tucker County after 4 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions would then score 4 runs in the 5th inning and the Lady Rams added 3 runs in the 5th to make the final score 16-4 Tucker County. Ava Shaffer got the start on the pitching mound for the Lady Mt. Lions and she went all 5 innings to pick up the win. Ava Shaffer also led the way at the plate for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went 5 for 5 with 1 triple, 1 double and 3 singles. Raven Matthews and Rachel Felton added 1 double and 1 single each for Tucker County. Addie Hicks and Paige Shaffer had 2 hits each for Tucker County, while Katie Hicks and Kate Simmons chipped in with 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions.
MOOREFIELD – The Tucker County Softball team then hit the road to face Moorefield on Thursday April 13th. In the game Moorefield got on the scoreboard first with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to make the score 2-0 Yellowjackets. Moorefield then added 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 1 run in the 3rd inning to push the Lady Yellowjackets lead to 5-0 after 3 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 1 run in the top of the 4th inning, but Moorefield fired back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th to make the score 8-1 Moorefield after 4 innings. The Lady Yellowjackets then added 1 run in the 5th inning to make the final score 9-1 Moorefield. Tucker County collected 5 hits in the game while giving up 11 hits. Rachel Felton led the Lady Mt. Lions with 2 hits and Katie Hicks had 1 double for Tucker County. Addie Hicks and Kate Simmons added 1 hit each for Tucker County in the loss. Ava Shaffer got the loss on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions and Paige Shaffer entered the game in relief.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Gilmer County for a single game on Friday April 14th. Tucker County got off to a good start as they held Gilmer County scoreless through 2 innings and scored 1 run in the 1st inning to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 1-0 lead through 2 innings. The Lady Titans then exploded for 7 runs in the 3rd inning to make the score 7-1 Gilmer County after 3 innings. Tucker County then answered back with 4 runs in the 4th inning to put the score to 7-5 Gilmer County. The Lady Titans then scored 1 run in the top of the 6th inning and 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning to give Gilmer County a 10-5 lead halfway through the 7th inning. Tucker County then scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then had 2 runners on base with 2 outs, but Tucker County could not complete the comeback as the Lady Titans got the road win by the final score of 10-7. The Lady Mt. Lions had 6 hits on the night while giving up 12 hits to Gilmer County. Rachel Felton led Tucker County with a 3 run home run to right field in the 4th inning. Kate Simmons had 2 hits while Addie Hicks added and triple and Katie Hicks hit a double. Corrinia Lipscomb chipped in with 1 hit for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Paige Shaffer went the distance for Tucker County on the mound while suffering the loss.
DUNMORE – Tucker County traveled to Pocahontas County for a doubleheader on Saturday April 15th. In Game 1 Tucker County started fast as they scored 1 run in the 1st inning, 7 runs in the 2nd inning and 8 runs in the 3rd inning to end the game early with a final score of 16-0. Addie Hicks led Tucker County in batting with 2 hits(1 double, 1 single) with 4 RBI’s in the contest. Brianna Gooden had 3 hits in the game with 1 double and 2 singles while Ava Shaffer added 2 hits(1 triple, 1 double) for the Lady Mt. Lions. Corrinia Lipscomb and Paige Shaffer also had 1 double each while Kate Simmons, Bella Loucks and Katie Hicks added 1 hit each. Corrinia Lipscomb got the 3 inning no hitter on the mound for Tucker County in the win, while striking out 6.
In Game 2 the Lady Mt. Lions exploded for 11 runs in the 1st inning to get the early lead and Ava Shaffer pitched a perfect game for the Lady Mt. Lions win. Tucker County then added 7 runs in the 2nd inning and 1 run in the 3rd inning to give the Lady Mt. Lions the 19-0 Game 2 win. Ava Shaffer pitched a perfect game no hitter on the mound for Tucker County as she went 3 innings and struck out 8 batters in the win. Paige Shaffer led Tucker County with 4 RBI’s and 3 hits in her 3 for 3 performance at the plate. Corrinia Lipscomb, Ava Shaffer, Katie Hicks and Isabella Bennett had 1 double each for Tucker County. Corrinia Lipscomb and Katie Hicks also had 1 single each while Rachel Felton had 2 singles for the Lady Mt. Lions. Brianna Gooden and Addie Hicks chipped in with 1 hit each in the Game 2 win for Tucker County.
