Tucker County’s softball team hosted two games this week. On Tuesday, the 31st, the Yellowjackets of Moorefield came to Camp Kidd. The Mt. Lions found themselves down early, trailing 3-0 after one inning, 5-0 after two, and 7-1 after three innings. The final score came in at 10-1 after six innings of play. Moorefield recorded six hits compared to Tucker’s five. The big difference was errors, as Tucker committed eight while Moorefield had none.

Tucker stayed at home for a matchup with the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs. TC again found themselves down early, giving up four runs in the top of the first inning. Neither team scored again until the fourth inning, when Tygarts Valley added a fifth run. Tucker responded in the bottom of the inning with six runs and added another in the bottom of the fifth.

The Bulldogs tied the game by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, making the score 7-7. They were then held scoreless in the top of the final frame, setting up a dramatic finish for Tucker in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases juiced, with three runners on, senior Rylee White stepped to the plate and delivered a single, scoring Peyton Hicks from third base to seal the win in a walk-off fashion, 8-7.

Hicks and Bella Loucks each collected three hits, while White added two. Hicks earned the win, recording 12 strikeouts over eight innings of work.

This victory gives Tucker their first win of the young season, improving their record to 1-2. The Mt. Lions will return to action on Monday, April 6th, with a home matchup against the Southern Garrett (MD) Rams.

Peyton Hicks sends the heat.
