The Tucker County Little League All-Stars in the 9–10-year-old division delivered a thrilling postseason run this week, showcasing talent, heart, and teamwork as they came within one game of reaching the state tournament.
On Saturday, Tucker County pulled off a dramatic 12–11 victory over Braxton County in an elimination game. It was a true team effort, with seven different players recording hits and nine of the eleven players reaching base. The offensive firepower was matched by determined pitching from Blaine Montoney, Landon Smith, and Ryden Huffman, who combined efforts on the mound to secure the win.
Just one win away from a trip to the state tournament, Tucker County faced off against Elkins on Sunday in what turned into a classic pitching duel. Despite a valiant effort, the All-Stars fell just short, 4–3, in a game filled with standout performances.
Blaine Montoney went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, notching two singles and an RBI. Jaxson Quattro added a key triple and RBI, while Miles Henderson chipped in with a single in his 1-for-2 outing. On the mound, Smith and Henderson combined to keep the Elkins bats in check, giving their team a chance until the final out.
Though the season ends shy of a state tournament birth, the Tucker County All-Stars earned respect and admiration for their grit, talent, and sportsmanship. Coaches, families, and fans alike praised the team’s hard work and unity throughout the tournament.
With young talent like this, the future of Tucker County baseball looks very bright.
