TUCKER COUNTY BOYS BEAT PRESTON, FALL TO KEYSER IN OVERTIME

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Preston on Wednesday December 27th. Tucker County led throughout the game and pulled away in the fourth quarter to capture the 61-52 victory at home.


The first quarter was back and forth as both teams battled and Tucker County held the slim 17-15 lead after one quarter of play. The home standing Mt. Lions stayed ahead in the second as they outscored the Knights 16-12 in the quarter to make the halftime score 33-27 Tucker County.

The third quarter was even as both teams scored 25 points each to keep the Tucker County lead the same as the Mt. Lions led 48-42 after three. Tucker County then controlled the game in the fourth quarter as they outshot Preston in the period 13-10 to give the Mt. Lions the home win by the final score of 61-52.

Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 17 points, 5 blocks and Brandon Zirk added 16 points, 8 rebounds. Jeffrey Snyder had 10 points while Wesley Snyder and Alec Cumming collected 6 rebounds each for Tucker County in the win. The Mt. Lions JV team fell in their game 47-34.

HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Keyser on Friday December 29th. Tucker County fought back from 10 points down to take the lead late, but Keyser tied the game to force overtime. Keyser then pulled away in overtime for the win 72-68.

Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter and Keyser took the slim lead after one quarter 13-11. The Golden Tornado outscored Tucker County in the second quarter 15-12 to push the Keyser lead to 28-23 at the half.

The Mt. Lions fought back in the third quarter to outpace Keyser 19-17 to cut the Golden Tornado lead to 45-42 after three quarters. Tucker County then struggled early in the fourth quarter as they trailed by as many as 10 points. The Mt. Lions fought back to take the lead late in the game, but a rebound and put back by Keyser after a missed foul shot tied the game 62-62 to put the game into overtime. Keyser then outscored the Mt. Lions 10-6 in overtime to give the visitors the win by the final score of 72-68.

Tucker County was led in scoring by Corrick Ambrose with 22 points, 8 rebounds and Brandon Zirk added 17 points. Alec Cummings and Wesley Snyder had 9 points each for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Tucker County JV fell in their contest 45-24.

Tucker County(3-5) will host Notre Dame tonight January 3rd and then they will travel to Moorefield on Friday January 5th. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
