Tucker County Boys Open Season With Road Win At Trinity 69-43

MORGANTOWN – The Mt. Lions basketball team came out ready to play on the road as they opened their season in fine fashion with a dominating win 69-43 against Trinity Christian last Wednesday Dec 11th.

Both teams struggled early as the first game nerves had an impact on both teams and Tucker County led after the first quarter 13-10. The Mt. Lions turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and the Warriors ended the half with 18 turnovers compared to 10 for Tucker County and as a result the Mt. Lions led at halftime 28-15.

In the third quarter Tucker County continued the great defense and Trinity continued to struggle to make shots. The Mt. Lions pulled away further as they scored 20 points in the third quarter and Trinity managed just 9 points in the quarter to give Tucker County a 48-24 led after three. The reserves for the Mt. Lions came into the game in the fourth quarter and the Warriors continued to struggle and Tucker County got the win on the road 69-43.

The Mt. Lions (1-0) were led in scoring by Ian Nichols with 21 points and 8 rebounds and Derek Zirk finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and 6 assists in his first career varsity start. Austin Zirk also added 10 points for Tucker County. Trinity finished with 27 turnovers on the night compared to just 13 for the Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team also got the win 54-26. Tucker County was scheduled to travel to Notre Dame Dec 16th and then they will host Petersburg Thursday and also host East Hardy on Friday Dec 20th. For More Tucker County Sports info log onto
