Tucker County Girls Run Away From Tygarts Valley 62-22

HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions basketball team turned up the defense against the Lady Bulldogs last Thursday Dec 12th holding the visitors to just 22 total points and picked up the PVC Conference win 62-22.

Tucker County started the game with some good offense and their defense dominated Tygarts Valley as they took an early lead after the first quarter 17-5. In the second quarter the Lady Mt. Lions dominance continued as they poured in 23 points in the second quarter and held the Lady Bulldogs to just 10 points and the lead increased to 40-15 Tucker County at the half.

The third quarter was no different than the first 2 quarters as the Lady Mt. Lions continued to pull away as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the quarter to build a 51-18 lead after the third quarter. Coach Ambrose pulled his starters half way through the third quarter and the reserve players finished out the game in the fourth quarter. Tygarts Valley pulled their starters as well in the fourth and the Tucker County reserves outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the final quarter 11-4 to make the final score 62-22.

Tucker County(2-0) had three players with 9 points each, Bekah Simmons, Aiyana Kachmarek and Elizabeth Nichols. Stephanie Betler and Madison Mullenax added 7 points each for the Lady Mt. Lions. The leading rebounders for Tucker County were Simmons with 7 boards followed by Kachmarek with 6 and Nichols added 5 boards. Savannah Ambrose added 6 blocks on the night and Mariah Bowley finished with 5 steals. The Tucker County JV team also got the win 78-31. The Lady Mt. Lions will host Moorefield tonight and then they will travel to the Northern Panhandle this weekend for a pair of varsity only games. On Friday the Tucker County Girls’ will face off against “AAA” John Marshall in their Holiday Mixer at 7:45pm. Then on Saturday The Lady Mt. Lions will take on Wheeling Central Catholic at 6pm at Glen Dale. The Petersburg game that was postponed this past Saturday has been rescheduled for Dec 30th at Petersburg.
