The Tucker County cross country team traveled to compete in the Buckhannon-Upshur Invitational, a large and highly competitive meet featuring numerous teams and a crowded field of runners.
With so many athletes competing, every place was hard-earned as runners battled through the course and worked to post strong times for their team.
Juniper Judy led the way for Tucker County, finishing 12th overall and earning a spot in the Top 15 medal standings. Judy’s finish was a strong performance against a large field and highlighted a competitive day for the Tucker County runners.
On the boys’ side, William Gilligan finished 18th, followed closely by Draven Bunnell in 19th. The two Tucker County runners battled their way into the top 20, putting together solid finishes.
Landon Wilfong continued Tucker County’s effort with a 30th-place finish. Evan Spencer crossed the line in 50th, while Riley Coffman finished 51st.
The Buckhannon-Upshur Invitational gave the Mountain Lions an opportunity to compete against a large collection of schools and some of the area’s top runners. With hundreds of athletes potentially separated by only seconds, each position represented an eager effort. The cross-country team will compete again on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Broadford Park Invitational.
