Tucker County’s golf team launched the fall sports season with a commanding victory on August 5, defeating Clay-Battelle in a head-to-head match at Canaan Valley Resort. The team secured the win with a final score of 176 to 201 in the nine-hole event. Impressively, 12 out of 13 team members participated, with seven golfers finishing in the top 10 individually. Senior Drew Simmons led the charge, shooting a remarkable round of 40, closely followed by fellow senior Nate Davis, who carded a 41.
The team quickly shifted focus to their next challenge, competing in the 18-hole Highlands Invitational at Fisher Mountain in Pendleton County the following day. Despite facing a tough course and a field of eight teams ranging from “AAAA” to “A” classifications, Tucker County showed great potential. Newcomers Ethan Cummings and Cade Rapp demonstrated promising performances.
Nate Davis led the team, finishing with a score of 92.
Looking ahead, Tucker County has a packed schedule. They will compete on Monday at The Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe Mountain, hosted by Tygarts Valley, followed by a home match at Canaan Valley on Tuesday. The week concludes with a match at Polish Pines, hosted by Keyser, on Wednesday.
