Former Head Coach Jim Ambrose stepped down and passed the torch to TCHS Alumni Josh Evans. Coach Evans is just getting into coaching football after graduating from college last year. Coach Evans was head coach of the TCHS Baseball last spring and is ready to get into the football side of coaching as well. Coach Evans will also have a family connection at the assistant position where his dad Chopper Evans will step in and help out. Chopper has coached many years at the little league football level and has been involved with youth ministry in the Tucker County area for many years. The older Evans was also a pretty good football player as well at TCHS where he was a starter on the 1986 and 1987 teams that played in back to back “AA” Football State Championship games. The other Assistant Coach that has come on board to coach at Tucker Valley this year is long time coach Fred Davis. Coach Davis has coached all different age groups and different sports for many years and has served as Boys’ Head Basketball Coach at Harman High School for the past several years.

The Tucker Valley team is made up of (22) – 8th graders, (4) – 7th graders and (1) – 6th grader for a total of 27 kids. Coach Evans talked about the experience that is returning from last year’s team, “We have 7 returning starters from last year which will help the adjustment of a new coaching staff.” Evans also touched briefly on his defense saying, “Defense is going good so far, we are trying to implement the same defenses as the high school team.”

The schedule for Tucker Valley will be the same as last year. The Wildcats will open their season on September 4th at home against Moorefield. Tucker Valley’s other scheduled games look like this: Home contests against Pendleton County, Elkins and Petersburg, along with road contests against East Hardy, Belington, Philippi and Tygarts Valley. All games will kickoff at 7pm. Coach Evans talked about the schedule for the Wildcats, “We have a pretty tough schedule it is not an easy cupcake schedule.”

This year’s team has some experience returning from last year and they hope to continue the winning tradition that has been built at this young program. Come out and support this team. All Wildcat Football Home games and the game at Tygarts Valley will be broadcast with live online audio on TuckerCountySports.Com.
