Tucker Valley’s Wildcat football team made the long trip to Dunmore last week to face the 1-0 Pocahontas County Warriors.
Tucker wasted no time, scoring just two plays into the game on a 25-yard run by Braxton White. With the failed conversion, Tucker led 6-0 early. On the following defensive drive, the Wildcats’ Noah White recovered a fumble, setting up his brother Braxton for a five-yard touchdown run to make the score 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Wildcats would go on to get a third first-half touchdown from Braxton White, this time on a 26-yard pass from Bentley Haddix. A successful two-point conversion extended the lead to 20-0.
The Warriors would show some life just before halftime, scoring on a 47-yard run to cut the deficit to 20-7 at the break.
The second half started with Pocahontas in possession, but a few plays into the drive, defensive tackle Ashton Arnett came up with a fumble recovery, allowing Noah White to dive into the end zone from eight yards out. The lead was now 26-7.
The Warriors wouldn’t go away, however, breaking off a 54-yard run to cut the lead to 26-13 heading into the fourth quarter.
The game would be put on ice as Tucker Valley’s offensive line opened the biggest hole of the game, allowing Noah White to walk into the end zone from 39 yards out and settle the final score at 32-13.
Bentley Haddix led Tucker in passing with 56 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Noah White led the team in rushing, carrying the ball 13 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Braxton White followed with 13 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns, along with two catches for 56 yards and another touchdown.
Eighth-grade linebacker Tristan Pitzer was a force on the defensive side of the ball, recording eight solo tackles and two tackles for a loss.
With the win, Tucker improved to 2-0, and the Wildcats are set for their first home game next week on Thursday, September 17, at 6 p.m., as Tygarts Valley comes to town.
