Iris “Jean” Simmons Loughry

Iris “Jean” Simmons Loughry, 81, a former resident of the St. George area and a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, passed from this life Wednesday, February 22, 2023.  She had been in declining health.

 

Jean was born on Monday, May 19, 1941, in Canaan Valley, a daughter of the late Herbert Jesse Simmons and Gaynel Thelma Bonner Simmons.  On August 16, 1972, in Oakland, MD, she married Fred Leroy Loughry, who preceded her in death on October 12, 2012.

 

Left to cherish Jean’s memory are two daughters, Brenda J. Arnold and husband, Leonard, and Sharon K. Moats and husband, William, two sons, Randy A. Carr and wife, Tammy, and Stephen D. Carr and wife, Trina, all of Parsons, five grandchildren, Todd Arnold and wife, Tara, Julie Parks and husband, Donald, Travis Moats and wife, Chelsie, Scott Moats, and Melissa Burns and husband, Andrew, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Frank and Olin (Peck), eight sisters, Thelma (Fid), Erma, Patsy, Mary, Shirley, Virginia, Ruby and Mildred (Cindy), several nieces and nephews.

 

Preceding Jean in death besides her parents and husband, were two brothers, Herbert (Faye) and George, and a sister Carol Sue.

 

Jean attended the schools of Tucker County in the Red Creek and Davis area. She had previously been employed with the Hinchcliff Lumber Company in Hendricks for more than twenty years. Jean was a member of the Rowlesburg Post #3008, VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Methodist by faith and had attended the Macedonia United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and crocheting, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and providing for her family.

 

Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services was conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11 a.m.  Reverend Brad Barton officiated, and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery.  The Hostetler Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Iris “Jean” Simmons Loughry.  Send online condolences to the family at
