Tucker County Mountain Lions’ golf team had themselves a pair of matches over the past week, showcasing their improvements in two competitive matches. On August 18, the varsity team traveled to Alpine Lake Resort for a 9-hole match hosted by AAAA Preston County High School. Competing against two other AAA schools, the Mt. Lions demonstrated their intestinal fortitude by securing a third-place finish, trailing 10 shots behind the winners from Lewis County High School. Individually, Tucker excelled, with Nate Davis finishing 5th, Drew Simmons 6th, and Cayden Arnold 7th, all placing in the top 10.

The following day, August 19, Tucker County hosted a 9-hole match at Holly Meadows Golf Course against Notre Dame, Union, and Pendleton County. The Mt. Lions delivered their best performance of the season, clinching first place by a commanding 14 strokes over regional powerhouse Pendleton County High School. The team had an impressive seven members in the top 10, with Nate Davis leading the charge by shooting a remarkable -1 (35), including a strong finish of -3 over his last five holes.

Cade Rapp followed in 3rd, Drew Simmons in 5th, Braylon Ward in 6th, Carter Wilt in 7th, Cayden Arnold in 9th, and Branson Hyre in 10th.

In the JV division, Tucker County also triumphed, finishing first against Pendleton and Notre Dame JV teams. Branson Hyre and Jarrett Dearborn were instrumental in leading the JV team to victory. The Mountain Lions are set to continue their season with a match at Canaan Valley Resort on Tuesday and will conclude the week with a trip to Stonewall Jackson Resort on Thursday for a match hosted by Lewis County High School.
