With Tucker Valley’s varsity football squad on a bye week, the junior varsity took center stage as they hosted the neighboring Elkins Hornets. Tucker would get things started as QB Eli Bowley would find his tight end in the flat, as Nelson Herron scored from one yard out. Bowley would then connect with Bryson Pica in the back of the end zone to complete the two-point try, as Tucker led early, 8-0.
Tucker would hold the Hornets, and again, the Bowley-to-Pica connection would find home as they hit from 31 yards out. With a failed two-point try, the Wildcats led 14-0. The Hornets would show some life on the following drive as they would bust loose from 63 yards out to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 14-6.
The Wildcats would score once more before the half as Bowley would throw his third first-half touchdown, this time to fellow sixth grader Miles Henderson from six yards out. Brayden Goss would add the two-pointer on the end around, and Tucker had a 22-6 lead at the half.
The Wildcats would post a second-half shutout, keeping the Hornets out of the end zone while putting one more in themselves. Jace Barkley would walk into the end zone untouched from five yards out to bring the final score to 28-6 in favor of the home-standing Wildcats.
QB Eli Bowley tossed for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Miles Henderson rushed for 45 yards and caught a six-yard touchdown, while Easton Phillips also collected 32 yards on the ground. Bryson Pica hauled in two catches for 39 yards and a score, and Nelson Herron came down with five catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.
The Wildcat varsity team will return to play next Thursday, October 15, at 6 p.m. as they travel to Short Line Middle (Valley Wetzel).
